    Importing descriptions

    When importing schema, Dataedo also reads descriptions and comments from DBMS. Those descriptions are inserted into description fields in Dataedo repository.

    Once imported, Dataedo is a master data source for descriptions and comments from DBMS are ignored. An exception is when the description is blank in Dataedo repository. Read more in updating descriptions article.

    Database support

    Dataedo reads following descriptions/comments from DBMS:

    SQL Server/Azure SQL Database:

    Dataedo reads MS_Description extended property from following SQL Server objects:

    • Tables
      • Columns
      • Primary/unique keys
      • Foreign keys
      • Triggers
    • Views
      • Columns
    • Procedures
      • Parameters
    • Functions
      • Parameters

    Oracle:

    Dataedo reads comments from following Oracle objects:

    • Tables
      • Columns
    • Views

    MySQL, MariaDB Server:

    Dataedo reads comments from following MySQL objects:

    • Tables
      • Columns
      • Primary/unique keys
    • Views
      • Columns
    • Procedures
    • Functions
