Working with repositories
Switch to the documentation for Dataedo 8.x (current).
When you run Dataedo editor you will see Connect window at first. This window enables you to connect to an existing repository or create one.
You can open this window later with New/Open button available on the ribbon.
Window has following elements:
1. Create file - creating new file repository
2. Open file - connecting to existing file repository
3. Create repository - creating new server repository
4. Connect to repository - connecting to existing server repository
5. Recent - list of you recent connections
Connecting to existing repository
To connect with existing repository you choose an Open file (2) or Connect to repository (4), depending on the type of the repository you are trying to connect to.
Opening file repository
To open existing file repository you choose an Open file (2) on Connect window.
Next enter location and name of the file you want to open. Click Browse button to open the file chooser. Click Open to open repository.
Connecting to server repository
To connect with existing file repository you choose a Connect to repository (4) on Connect window.
To log into repository provide host address, database name (the one that was provided while creating repository), your login and password to the server and click Connect.
If you don?t know host or database contact your administrator.
On the right side of the Connect window (5) you have a list of shortcuts to all your recent connections (this list is saved in your local installation).
Connecting to another repository
When you work with a repository you can connect to another one with New/Open button on the ribbon. This will open connection window that would enable you to choose another connection.
Creating new file repository
To create new file repository click Create file(1) button on Connect window.

Next enter file location and name. Use Browse button to choose the folder.
If you leave 'Welcome and samples' checkbox your repository will contain welcome page and sample documentations. You may delete them anytime. Click Create.
Your file repository is ready. Now you can add documentation. More information about adding documentation in Importing database schema article.
Creating new server repository
To create new server repository click Create repository (3) button on Connect window.
