Building Bridges in Wrocław: A US-Polish Workation

At Dataedo, we have fully embraced the remote-first model since our rapid growth in 2020. We love the freedom and flexibility that comes with working remotely. But we also know how important it is to get together in person sometimes. That's why, twice a year, we make it a priority to bring our team together for a workation.

Discovering Wrocław's Charm

Our September 2022 workation in Wrocław was extra special because it was the first time our growing US team joined us in Poland. Chase, our Head of Sales, previously visited Poland in 2021, and this time was accompanied by two new members of the sales team, Jonny and Patrick. We wanted to strengthen our bonds, work together on projects, and learn from each other. And Wrocław was the great place for it.

Wrocław, located in the heart of Poland was a perfect match for us with its rich history, lively culture, and stunning beauty.

Together, we explored the city, participating in a city game that allowed us to learn more about its history and culture. Our search for the famous Wrocław dwarves created thousands of hilarious memories along the way. Not to mention numerous pictures that we’ve made.

Combining Work and Fun

At our workation, we had the best of both worlds - work and play. Meetings, workshops, and standups in a new surroundings and ability to connect face to face was a great opportunity to exchange our thoughts and discuss new ideas.

We also cultivated a workshops tradition from the previous edition of workation. This time during Product workshop swe walked into product managers shoes to discover the challenges of developing IT products.

We also had Data Dojo workshops that transformed us into clients for couple of hours and allowed us discovering our application new feature – data profiling.

With our minds sharp and engaged, we moved on to fun activities. The quiz night at the pub was a big hit. A karaoke added a special twist to it. In the next days we had multiple opportunities to play board games, visit and explore the city, enjoyed a team dinner at a restaurant and also had a campfire together. Not even the rain could dampen our spirits and stop us from making memorable moments.

US Team's Polish Adventure

The US team had a fantastic time in Poland, which left a lasting impact on each member. Jonny, Patrick and Chase admired the country's culture and beautiful places that they visited.

Here's the workation seen by our US crew:

There were many highlights of the trip but a few that really come to mind are meeting and having multiple beers with our CEO Piotr, waking up every morning and going to the gym with our head of Sales Chase, and last was having a 4-hour long dinner with the sales team (to talk about life not sales) Patrick, Mariana, and Chase.

It has been 3 months since I started at Dataedo and the most important lesson I have learned is “there is so much more to life than work” and this trip was the perfect example of that. - Jonathan DeMoya, Account Executive

A few months ago I was asked to travel to Dataedo headquarters here in Poland. I was very hesitant considering I haven’t been on a plane since I was six and have never been to Europe. After contemplating for a few weeks I agreed and it was the best decision of my life.

Meeting all my coworkers in person and making memories is something I will never forget and will always be extremely grateful for. Dataedo to the moon! - Patrick Hynes, Account Manager

So long, Wrocław! It was an awesome time during our workation. We had a lot of fun, and got work done. We're already counting the days until the next trip togehter!
