• Descriptions - Every object in Dataedo repository has a description field. There are two types of descriptions - plain text and rich text. They can be used for example to explain where the data for particular column comes from and how it’s calculated.
• Titles/aliases - Table and column names aren’t always self-explanatory. Dataedo gives you the ability to create meaningful titles for them. This title will be added after the name of an object in the export. For instance: invoices_tab (Documents).
• Custom fields - allow to define additional descriptive fields on top of built-in description and title/alias to add more meaning and metadata to your data. You can create up to 100 custom fields, depending on your plan.

Dataedo Data Doc feautres two types of description fields:

Data Profiling module allows you to look into the actual data stored in the tables and analyze how many null, empty, distinct values there are in each field, what are the min, max and average values and list most popular values. This information can be saved in the repository and is easily accessible in Web Catalog and Desktop, making it even easier for everyone to understand the tables and columns.

Data Lineage module allows you to manually configure and browse how data flows between your objects and data sources. Data Lineage in Dataedo contains two parts. You can design flows using Dataedo Desktop and browse diagrams using Dataedo Web Catalog.

Metadata Repository is a database that stores all the metadata managed by Dataedo. It can have one of two forms:

• File repository - stored locally on your computer drive
• Server repository - self hosted SQL Server or Azure SQL Database

Data Stewards (Pro/Enterprise)

Data Stewards (or Editors) are users that can build the data catalog and document data using Dataedo Desktop and Dataedo Web Catalog.

Data Stewards come with Dataedo Pro or Dataedo Enterprise subscription plan.

Community Users (Enterprise Viewers)

Community Users (or Enterprise Viewers) are users that can browse and search Dataedo Web Catalog or Dataedo HTML Plus, and from 9.1 also contribute to the community with comments, ratings, warnings, post and answer questions (using Data Community module).

Enterprise Viewers are purchased as part of Dataedo Enterprise subscription plan.
