Recently, two independent sources reached similar conclusions about Dataedo’s approach to data governance. One was a 9 dimension framework built by a data governance practitioner who evaluated six platforms (Dataedo included) with no vendor involvement. The other was the feedback from our customers that earned us a Strong Performer recognition in the 2026 Gartner Peer Insights™ “Voice of the Customer” for Data and Analytics Governance Platforms.

An independent framework: nine dimensions, not a feature list
Most catalog evaluations are feature checklists. The 9 dimension framework started from a different question: what do you only find out about a platform two years after you’ve signed? The author - Bartłomiej Graczyk, a data governance leader - built nine dimensions around that:
- Value Velocity: how fast business users actually get something useful
- Total Economic Reality: the real all-in cost, not the headline price
- Organizational Readiness: how much maturity the platform assumes before it works
- Business–Technical Bridge: whether both audiences can find and trust data
- AI & Modern Stack: how well it governs and enables AI
- Governance Philosophy: governance as daily habit, or enforced mandate
- Adoption Architecture: genuinely used, or quietly ignored
- Ecosystem Independence: how trapped the investment becomes
- Vendor Partnership: transparency and trust before and after the contract
We’d hand that list to any buyer evaluating us. Including one evaluating us against competitors.
Applied to Dataedo, the series flagged what we’re always trying to build toward: fast time-to-value for teams starting from low maturity, pricing that doesn’t hide costs, and a governance philosophy where documentation happens as a side effect of daily work rather than a compliance exercise. The roadmap transparency got called out too, including its gaps.
That last part matters. The review was direct about where Dataedo doesn’t belong: deep AI-assisted discovery, BPMN-style workflow enforcement, enterprise-scale MDM. A catalog that tells you where it doesn’t fit is easier to trust about where it does.

While the independent framework provides one expert's analysis, Gartner Peer Insights™ offers a broader crowd-sourced signal: 105 verified reviews as of June 2026 from users who bought Dataedo, deployed it, and live with it daily. The summarized metrics from those user reviews show an Overall Rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars, with 64% of reviewers giving us a five-star rating.

They’re candid about the gaps too. AI-assisted definitions and search depth still have room to grow. Several note Dataedo isn’t as well-known as the product deserves.

What’s notable is how closely both assessments point to the same operational advantages without coordinating.
The Bartek Graczyk's 9 dimension framework scores Dataedo strongest on adoption, time-to-value, governance philosophy, and transparency. Reviewers independently land on the same things: fast results, ease of use, responsive support, and deployment flexibility (on-premises, secure, or cloud).
Both are also direct about who this is for. Dataedo is for teams building and scaling data governance who want results in weeks, not organizations chasing the deepest MDM stack or AI-discovery at enterprise scale. We’re comfortable with that boundary. It’s who we built this for.
If you’re evaluating data catalogs
Take the nine dimensions framework. Score your shortlist against them weighted for your maturity, your data estate, and how governance actually has to work inside your organization. Then read the user reviews to see how those tools perform in real-world environments. The best validation is what holds up when independent practitioners and active customers take a careful look and reach the same practical conclusions.
