User types

This article explains different types of users in Dataedo from the licensing point of view:

Dataedo plan (current)

Editors

Editors are users that can build the data catalog and documentation using Dataedo Desktop or Dataedo Web Catalog.

Viewers / community users

Viewers / community users are users that can:

  1. browse and search Dataedo Web Catalog and contribute to the community with comments, ratings, warnings, post and answer questions (using Data Community module).
  2. access documentation exported to:

    • Dataedo HTML Docs
    • PDF
    • Excel

Viewers / community users are not charged for. You need active Dataedo Editor license to use Web Catalog.

Admins

Admins manage users and access with Dataedo Desktop or Dataedo Web Catalog.

Legacy plans: Pro, Pro+, Enterprise. Data Dictionary, Metadata Manager, Data Catalog

Creators

Creators (formerly Data Stewards) are users that can build the data catalog and document data using Dataedo Desktop or Dataedo Web Catalog.

Creators come with following licenses:

  • Dataedo Pro,
  • Dataedo Pro+,
  • Dataedo Data Dictionary,
  • Dataedo Metadata Manager,
  • Dataedo Data Catalog - Creator,
  • Dataedo Enterprise.

Explorers

Explorers (formerly Enterprise Viewers) are users that can browse and search Dataedo Web Catalog and contribute to the community with comments, ratings, warnings, post and answer questions (using Data Community module).

Explorers are purchased as part of Dataedo Data Catalog - Explorer or Dataedo Enterprise subscription plan.

Viewers (free)

Viewers have read only access to documentation exported with:

  • Dataedo HTML Docs,
  • PDF,
  • Excel.

Viewers are free users.

Admins

Admins manage users and access with Dataedo Desktop or Dataedo Web Catalog.
