There are (at least) two types of analysis of your data you can (and should) perform. They differ in the purpose of the analysis:

Data Analysis - you analyze data in order to learn something about the processes they represent, i.e. usually your business.
Data Profiling - you analyze data in order to learn about the data itself - its fitness, quality, scope, etc.

Data profiling should preceed data analysis so that you make sure you can trust the data.
