SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Multidimensional

SQL Server Analysis Services in Multidimensional mode, is a Microsoft component designed for creating advanced analyses and reports based on multidimensional data models. It allows for organizing data in cube structures, which consist of dimensions and measures. These elements enable efficient querying and analysis of large data sets, providing business users with valuable insights.

Supported elements and metadata

Cubes

Dataedo imports data about Cubes, including items such as:

• MeasureGroups
• Measures
• Dimensions
• KPIs

Currently, we do not import Calculations, but we plan to do so in the near future.

Dimensions

Dataedo imports data about Dimensions, including items such as Attributes. If an Attribute is created based on an Expression then the information about it is also imported.

Linked Sources

Linked Sources are details about the origins of data. If Dataedo detects that a data source is documented, this information is included in the Linked Source section.

The Linked Source comprises details such as:

• Database Name
• SQL Dialect
• Default Schema
• Connection Details

Sources

In Sources, information from the DataSoureView is contained. Each table, as well as every NamedQuery, is an individual Source object.

Automatic column data lineage

Dataedo creates automated column lineage in two distinct scenarios:

Within Dimensions, lineage is established between the Dimension and the Data Source View. In Dataedo, this is referred to as the Source.

The Data Source View has a data origin that is documented within Dataedo, such as an SQL Server instance.
